Incline Yourself Toward Joy by Anna Stookey

Incline yourself toward joy, not
unfamiliar,

the soft fibers of your
porous, playful heart,

as light breaks open
nighttime into streaks
of pink surprise.

This buried world,
heavy with soil, is not
beyond its grasp;

its knowing smile
spreads like seed
when patiently attended.

Joy lingers, listening
with us to the stillness
between breaths

that seeming
empty, fills
with fire
we come from,
inevitably belonging.
